What we do

Battledown is a maintained Special School funded by Gloucestershire County Council providing specialist assessment of children between the ages of 0 to 7 and covering the whole range of additional needs.

These include: -

  • Communication and Social Interaction Difficulties
  • Learning Difficulties
  • Speech and Language Delay/Disorder Developmental Delay
  • Physical, Medical difficulties and Sensory Impairment
  • Emotional and Behaviour Difficulties

Your Child’s Opportunities and Achievements

The learning environment at Battledown will be free from prejudice and without discrimination. It will provide opportunities for children to seek new challenges and to practise and consolidate emerging skills. It will offer a wide range of experiences and a stimulating environment.

Achievements will be recorded daily, shared with parents via Voxer an electronic record of their learning.

Throughout your child's assessment, opportunities for informal discussion about his progress are available as often as you would like, by prior arrangement with the Headteacher. Key staff will visit you and your child at home within the first 4 weeks to give you information on how she has settled in.  There will be regular meetings inline with your child's  My Plan/My Plan+/EHCP.

The 1988 Education Act requires that religious education should form part of the curriculum for all statutory school-age children. This will be in line with Christian tradition and according to the agreed syllabus drawn up by the local advisory committee (SACRE). This learning experience will include a regular act of worship involving the whole school to celebrate special days, events and leavers. You are welcome to join us on these special occasions.

You have the right to ask for your child to be withdrawn from collective worship, in which case suitable arrangements will be made for the care of your child.
