Nigel Hunter Nursery

The Nigel Hunter Nursery is a specialist therapy centre for the very young with special needs.

nigel_hunter_nursery.jpgA team of specialists includes paediatricians, physio and occupational therapists, speech and language therapist, and orthoptist, as well as the permanent staff of co-ordinator and senior early years practitioners.  An advisor on social care and benefits holds a weekly drop-in session for parents.

Children may attend a weekly group, take part in a multi-professional assessment programme or attend Early Start group.  Groups may be supported by a physiotherapist, speech and language therapist, or music therapist.

A monthly group for children with a sensory impairment is run in conjunction with the Advisory Teaching Service for hearing impairment and visual impairment.

The nursery is equipped with a range of therapy equipment such as specialist seating and standing frames and a range of toys and activities designed to stimulate development of new skills.  Facilities include a communal playroom, messy playroom, sensory and soft play, playground area and sensory garden.

The nursery is supported by its own charity, The Friends of the Nigel Hunter Nursery, which raises funds to pay for extra therapists, equipment and parties.

Referrals are made through the child’s paediatrician.

We have regular visits from a dental hygienist to advise on teething and care of teeth.
