Hi, I’m Nikki, I am Acting Deputy Heateacher, Class teacher and Curriculum Lead at the Centre. I have been teaching at Battledown for over 10 years now and was previously a nursery nurse at The Milestones School for many years, so have been in special needs education since I left school. I enjoy working with children and their families and the challenges that every day offers. There is never a dull day a Battledown and it is always so rewarding and inspiring, with opportunities to learn so much every day.

Sarah Moran

BA Hons, PGCE

My name is Sarah and I am a part time teacher at Battledown. I have a BA hons degree in English and drama and a PGCE degree. It was particularly exciting to begin working at Battledown three years ago as my youngest son had attended the school previously and as a parent I had benefited from the huge support and advice we were given.

Jo Doyle

MA in Education,BEd(Hons), BSL

My name is Jo. I am the teacher in Purple Class. I have worked at Battledown since 2001 and previously taught in two mainstream schools. At Battledown I am the Knowledge and Understanding of the World Co-ordinator and the Total Communication Co-ordinator. During my time here I have gained a great deal of experience, working with a wide variety of special educational needs.

Jo Rayner

B Ed(Hons)

My name is Jo and I’m the new teacher in Green Class, working along with Nikki until the end of July to support the increasing class numbers. Since completing my degree, I have been supply teaching at the Milestone School. This is my first teaching post, but I am not new to Battledown as I have been fortunate enough to have spent time during my course working closely with the children and students from the University of Gloucestershire during PE sessions over the last two years. I’m excited to be a part of such a great team and I’m looking forward to getting to know the children and their families and taking on the daily challenges that teaching brings.

Jane Davies

My name is Jane, I am married with two boys and I have been involved with Battledown since 2001, starting as parent, BFG chair for 3 years and then working on the Admin team. My current role is a Continuous Improvement & Communications Coordinator. I feel very passionate about the school and what support it offers children and families. My outlook in life has changed considerably during my Battledown journey, I feel very privileged from what the school has given me during my time here both as a parent and member of staff.

Pauline Philips

BEd(Hons)

I’m Pauline and I’m a teaching assistant in Purple class at Battledown. I have worked here since September 2007 prior to that I worked as Deputy Manager of a busy day nursery for nine years. I work as part of the Extended Services Team and we run a Playscheme in the Summer. I enjoy cycling, music and all things creative.

Pauline Philips

Diploma of Higher Education

My name is Nikki and I am an Early Years Practitioner at Battledown. I have been involved with Battledown since 2008 when I became a volunteer helping with Forest School. Prior to volunteering I had taken a break from my teacher training course to have my third child. Battledown was for me an amazing discovery and totally inspiring place and I soon found myself part of the supply team and am now a full time member of staff. I have worked in all the different classes and found working with the children incredibly rewarding.

Helem Tharia

NNEB

I have worked at Battledown for many years and during my time here I have had a lot of experience working with children with a wide variety of special needs. I really enjoy being with the children and working with such a great team here at Battledown. I find my role fun and rewarding.

Debbie Benton

Hi, my name is Debbie. I am married with two boys. I currently work in finance as an administrator and have been at Battledown for 4 years. In my spare time I suuport my sons with their chosen sports. I have a white British Bulldog called Gertie. I love watching premier league football especially Tottenham Hotspur.

Caroline Tharia

Early Years Pracitioner

Sarah Bell

My name is Sarah Bell and I am the Family Worker. My younger son was a pupil at Battledown so I know how valuable support and understanding is when you have a child with additional needs.   In Early Years, when you are making sense of everything, finding your way and have a lot of questions, I can listen and signpost to services and support which might help you.  I believe parent carers are stronger together and a big part of my role is to create opportunities for families to get together and build friendships which continue long after the children leave Battledown.
In my spare time I like to try a variety of creative projects and activities with varying degrees of success!

Karen Cooke

NNEB,ADCE, HLTA, BTEC Forest School Leader

Hi, I’m Karen. I have worked in child care since qualifying in 1986. Having experienced Battledown from a parents perspective, I joined Purple class as a TA in 2005. Since joining Battledown I have qualified as a Forest School Leader and take a group of children to Forest School each week. I have also undertaken courses on PECS, Total Communication, Portage and Behaviour Management.

Ali Holtom

I came to Battledown as a volunteer in 2008. I soon moved to supply and now work full time! I currently work in all four classes covering for staff when on annual leave etc. I love this role as no two days are ever the same. I feel very lucky to work in such an amazing place.

Sue Douglas

Mary King-Stokes

Acting Headteacher

B.A. Ed (Hons) Postgraduate Cert in Management of Special and Inclusive Education

Hello, I’m Mary Acting Headteacher, and teach in whichever class needs me for at least 2 days each week. I came to Battledown in April 2009. I started my teaching career in a mainstream primary school in North London but quickly moved through a variety of other situations including teaching in a mobile van on a traveller site in West London. My most recent post was in a Worcester city special school where I spent 14 years working within the nursery assessment unit doing very similar things as I do here. I had believed that my previous placement was unique so was absolutely delighted to discover Battledown and feel very privileged to be aprt of the team.
